We’ve recently heard from many individuals, who are somewhat interested in joining a Small Group Personal Training sessions, that they were nervous & hesitant to try out a session for a number of reasons. Some being that:
– They are out of shape and don’t want to hold the group up
– They are nervous they can’t keep up, or lift as much as other members
-They don’t know much about strength training, so feel intimidated by the rest of the group
– They are embarrassed by their weight or lack of previous exercise, etc.
All of those are great reason TO join a small group style training, or doing 1-on-1 personal training to build up to that point. BUT, make sure it’s actually a small group and not a group of 7+ people per session. Our sessions are limited to 4 people per session, which allows us to really watch, instruct, teach, and personalize things to each individual person in the group. When you start adding more people it makes it harder for the trainer to ensure everyone has proper form or to customize exercises for injuries, goals, or limitations (especially for newcomers).
Our sessions are structured so that each person can go at their own pace (which won’t hold the group up). We also recommend our new members start with lighter weights for their first month so they can ease into it, perfect form, and help prevent injuries. We truly know our members and their limitations, which makes it easy for us to monitor a group of 4 people, even when one is a newcomer. We give demonstrations of each exercise along with verbal, visual, and tactile cues to make sure everyone is performing them properly.
Although we may be slightly biased, our members are the BEST, they are welcoming, helpful, encouraging, and guess what…they were once newcomers too, so they know how you feel!
And, as mentioned above, if you’d prefer some 1-on-1 training prior to joining the small groups (or just want to do 1-on-1 period), we can do that too, just let us know.
